Madrid Open: Swiatek Leads Strong Quarter-Finalist Lineup with Commanding Win
Iga Swiatek, the top performer at the Madrid Open, advanced to the quarter-finals with a commanding straight-set victory over Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo. Despite being broken in the first game, Swiatek then went on to win 12 consecutive games, securing a 6-1 6-0 triumph in just 68 minutes. Her next opponent will be the 11th seed, Beatriz Haddad Maia from Brazil, who defeated fifth seed Maria Sakkari 6-4 6-4.

Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur also secured a spot in the quarter-finals by defeating ninth seed Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets, winning 6-0 6-4. Jabeur, seeded eighth, will face American Madison Keys, who overcame world number three Coco Gauff in a challenging three-set match. Keys, the 18th seed, fought back from a 5-2 deficit in the first set, eventually winning in a tie-break 7-6 (7-4). Although Gauff won the second set, Keys prevailed in the decider, winning 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-4 after a grueling two hours and 31 minutes on the court.
Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva also progressed to the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 victory over 12th seed Jasmine Paolini of Italy. Andreeva’s potential opponent in the next round could be second seed Aryna Sabalenka, depending on Sabalenka’s match against 13th seed Danielle Collins of the United States in the last 16.
