Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a three-time Olympic champion, expressed her intention to retire after the 2024 Games in Paris, citing her family’s support and her desire to conclude her career on her own terms.

The Jamaican sprinter, renowned for her remarkable achievements in the 100m, won gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, adding to her accolades with a gold in the 4x100m relay at Tokyo 2020.

Fraser-Pryce, now 37, returned to competition after giving birth to her son in 2017, showcasing her resilience and dedication to the sport.

Reflecting on her decision to retire, Fraser-Pryce emphasized her commitment to her family, acknowledging the sacrifices made by her husband and the importance of prioritizing her son’s needs.

With an illustrious career spanning over a decade, Fraser-Pryce remains focused on leaving a legacy and inspiring the next generation of athletes.

After taking a break from the sport in 2017 to have her son, Zyon, she faced criticism and doubts about her ability to return. Critics suggested that attempting a comeback at the age of 32 would likely lead to failure, discouraging her from pursuing her athletic career further.

“It truly held immense significance because, as women, we encounter numerous challenges and face unexpected obstacles,” she expressesed in a past interview. “People often doubt the possibility of returning to competition after having a baby. While it may be uncommon, it shouldn’t serve as a barrier for athletes to pursue their careers.”

Her remarkable medal haul includes a total of three Olympic golds, along with numerous world titles in the 100m and 4x100m relay events.
